The International Student Department
The ISP Department at Smithfield High School is run by Ms Denise Russell (International Student Co-ordinator) and Mrs Cassandra Quirk (Homestay Co-ordinator).
International students study overseas to improve their English and to gain an understanding of the culture of Australia. There are many positive benefits for the student; personal links are formed, intercultural awareness is raised and international relations are enhanced.
At Smithfield High, the majority of our international students undertake the Study Abroad program. (This can vary from between 3 mths to 12 mths stay).
Students who do not journey to Australia with family reside with homestay families selected by our school Homestay Co-ordinator. The opportunity to stay with an Australian family is an experience that is greatly valued by most overseas students. Staying with an Australian family allows the student to gain a more authentic impression of Australian life and assists the student in improving their English speaking abilities as well as learning to adapt to different cultural norms and values.
