OVERVIEW: Health and Physical Education curricula aims to encourage physical activities that interest individual learners. Strategies that influence fitness and physical performance are experienced through a wide range of Junior and Senior courses. School sporting carnivals such as Athletics, Swimming, Cross Country and Triathlon are popular and successful in generating school spirit and promoting student performance. These compulsory school carnivals are a great way to develop relationships with staff and students. Student participate in events or cheer their team mates. There are events to challenge the elite athletes as well as the beginner. Many novelty events are included to encourage maximum participation. These are normally dress up days depending on the theme of each house.
PATHWAYS
SUBJECT OFFERINGS: Junior: HPE is core subject for all Junior students. Certificate II in Sport and Recreation is offered through the Excellence in Baseball programme (Years 9 to 12). Single sex classes in Year 9 to enable the best outcomes for students at this time of their development. There is a focus on improving fitness levels throughout Years 8, 9 and 10. Students study Health issues to minimise risky behaviours and maximise healty lifestyles.
Senior: Senior Physical Education and Senior Health Education allow for a variety of academic pathways beyond Year 12. Certificate II in Sport and Recreation is offered through the Excellence in Baseball Programme (Years 9 to 12). Certificate II in Community Recreation is offered as a Senior subject. Comprehensive Outdoor and Adventure programs that include diving, snorkelling, canoeing, hiking, camping, abseiling, whitewater rafting, mountain biking and first aid training. This programme culminates in a four day hike across Hinchinbrook Island.
