School-based Youth Health Nurse

Nic Clarkson is the School Based youth Health Nurse for Smithfield State High School. She is employed by Queensland Health and works at the school part time.

Nic's principal responsibilities include:

  • To engage with and contribute to the delivery of Human rights education/wellbeing programs at Smithfield State High School. Including but not limited to drugs and alcohol, domestic violence, Shine, and others
  • To respond to admin requests and student self-referrals to assist students with smoking counselling and education
  • To respond to admin requests and student self-referrals to assist students with mental health problems
  • Providing rapid intervention for students at risk of harming themselves or others
  • Liaising with child safety on issue related to student safety and wellbeing
  • Providing confidential advice and referrals related to any issues students wish to discuss e.g. relationship, family, sexual
  • To respond to admin requests and student self-referrals of sexual health related matters
  • To co-ordinate and manage the school immunisation program
