Student leadership

At Smithfield State High School we are proud to offer students in every year level the opportunity to demonstrate leadership and build skills to develop their Literate Graduate skill sets (21st century skills), particularly in the areas of collaboration, character and citizenship.

As well as our school captains and vice-captains, in the senior years we have student leaders in the areas of sport and music, along with Indigenous leaders and leaders who support students in our International Student Program.

In the junior school we have captains and vice-captains who are elected after showing leadership dedication in their early years of high school and primary school. They work closely with our senior leaders, who are role models for our future leaders.

All year levels have their own group of student leaders who are willing to step up and take on the role as representatives of their cohort. The student leaders meet regularly within their year levels, taking on responsibilities that serve the wider school community.

Each year group has representatives who form part of our whole school Student Congress, where the student body can voice opinions and ideas. The Student Congress provides a structured forum to develop and foster leadership and opportunities for collaboration between all year levels. This we call the legitimate student voice.

We have no doubt our student leadership program will continue to grow and we look forward to seeing great things from these students.
