The Smithfield State High School Instrumental Music Program provides tuition on a wide range of musical instruments to offer students the opportunity to become musicians through learning to play a band or orchestral instrument.
Students attend weekly group lessons and participate in performance ensembles; concert band and orchestra. The program aims to create and enhance opportunities for positive achievement and to promote excellence in performance. Students advance through the Queensland Instrumental Music curriculum in performance on strings, woodwind, brass or percussion instruments.

Lessons
Lessons are structured on a rotational timetable.
Each lesson is 30 minutes duration.
When the appropriate level is achieved, students are eligible to join the relevant performance ensemble.
Instruments
School instruments are available for loan on a yearly basis.
Eligibility
Students who are currently engaged in an Instrumental Music Program.
Students who have an interest in learning a band or orchestral instrument.
