The Senior School at Smithfield State High School incorporates Years 10,11 & 12.
Year 10
Year 10 operates as a transition year from the junior to senior phase of Secondary education, with many subjects forming an introduction to courses available in Years 11 & 12. Students are encouraged to continue studies in areas where they have achieved success in Year 9 or to align their elective selections with their career aspirations.
The Learning Program
- Seven subjects per semester.
- English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Health & Physical Education remain compulsory.
- The remaining 2 subjects are electives. There are 16 subjects offered across The Art, Humanities & Health & Physical Education.

In Year 10 students are required to develop their Senior Education & Training (SET) Plan which details their specific goals for Year 11/12 and beyond. For course details please refer to the relevant Senior Course Guide in the enrolments section.

Years 11 & 12
Smithfield State High School offers two pathways:
Tertiary - for students wanting an ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) to secure entry to university after Year 12.
Vocational - for students who are looking to move into the workforce or other training following Year 12 or during the two years.
Students are guided into the pathway where they are most likely to achieve academic success and be QCE (Queensland Certificate of Education) eligible.
