What is an immersion Program?
An Immersion Program is an innovative program which immerses students in a language while studying another subject. Participation in this program gives young people the opportunity to develop skills and attributes that will ultimately assist them to become global citizens of the future.
Learning via immersion provides a unique and stimulating environment where students with academic ability are provided with challenge and rigor. In addition, students gain an understanding of the pathways which may enable them to pursue language and/or global studies post secondary schooling.
At Smithfield State High School we are offering students in Year 9 the opportunity to study Humanities via French Immersion. This course saturates students in French for the first six weeks and, when base knowledge and understanding is evident, transitions to Humanities where the students study the same units of work as the rest of the cohort, however it is delivered in French.
2017 saw the first cohort of students in Year 9 through this innovative project with the subject set to expand into Year 10 in 2018.
